In those immortal words of Strother Martin, "What we've got here is failure to communicate."
This is the kind of stuff I read for a living.
Hat tip to Patterrico.

OBSERVATIONS, THOUGHTS, OCCASIONAL RANTS, THINGS I FIND INTERESTING AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT I FEEL MOVED TO SHARE OR COMMENT ON - SOMETIMES THEY MAY EVEN INVOLVE THE LAW, LAWYERS, OR THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM.

The big question is whether the judge meant to use a double negative or not. We'd all like to think so, but we've all read too many transcripts to take it for granted (although not as many read by me as you).
That illustrates one of the problems with transcripts. You don't have the benefit of the voice inflection and non-verbal communication (the judge rolling his/her eyes or whatever).
